Segundo Projeto – Permacultura

Second Project – Permaculture

Our second stop in South Africa was at the house of Sue, Jan, Max and the “granny”. This family tries to be as sustainable and self-sustaining as possible. After some inclement weather, they managed to buy land in the town of Baardskeerdersbos. They are currently building their own homes, using light from solar panels, drinking water from the rain, serving water from a well, dry toilets, separating the trash and selling what is recyclable, planting food, raising chickens, products. They live in a temporary trailer, the kitchen is in a container, sink and bathroom are external, plus a room for volunteers. Our help has revolved around building the house for the family. The same was made with blocks of hay, coated with clay removed from the soil itself, the openings were also restored with our help. Everything so far has been built and made by the family with the help of friends and volunteers. It was an excellent experience, we were able to learn and visualize all the theories we have in mind and believe, applied in real life. Believing in all the ideals of this family, we end up working as if it were our home, helping as much as possible and consequently we ended up making a difference in the life of this spectacular family.
